We find that whatever style has been chosen for the incursion, students will love it! Whether it’s a style they’re already familiar with – like hip hop – or whether it’s something totally new like African or Indigenous, our instructors know how to get the best out of kids and make them feel confident in any dance genre.
Absolutely! All our instructors have many years of training and study behind them. They all work professionally in the dance and fitness industry, both locally and internationally. You can read all about them in the Our team menu. Founder Nikki Visaj is also a qualified health and physical education teacher with a Bachelor Of Applied Science (Physical Education/Humanities). All instructors are great role models for physical literacy and health.
Yes, we provide all equipment necessary for whatever incursion is booked. This will include our own speakers, hand sanitiser and other health and safety requirements.
Always non-contact! We make this clear at the beginning of each session. Everyone will feel safe during our classes. We want to help the students to feel relaxed enough to practice mindfulness and have fun while also learning physical literacy.
Yes! All our instructors choose their music according to the age group they’re leading. We’re proud to feature music that’s positive, has no profanity and is uplifting and non-threatening. We want kids to finish their incursion feeling energised and confident.
Yes, our experience has shown us that children of any age can do any one of the dance styles we offer. We tailor every class for the age of the students participating. This means that we teach to certain levels for different age groups so everyone has the chance to feel confident and shine.
Our programs cater for all fitness levels. For incursions, especially when we work with a new group, we always start at a beginner level. We want kids to succeed so we break down all movements, skills and techniques to a basic level to make sure no one is injured and everyone has fun. During the class, if we see there are students ready for the next level up, we will adjust our teaching for those individuals to create more of a challenge.
Our programs all align with the Australian Curriculum framework for physical education and health. This means that we are experienced and qualified to teach physical literacy skills. The Australian Curriculum says that it “aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable students to access, evaluate and synthesise information to take positive action to protect, enhance and advocate for their own and others’ health, wellbeing, safety and physical activity participation across their lifespan.” This is at the core of what we teach. Our Aboriginal (Indigenous) classes also help teachers and schools to weave in appropriate (and fun) content to meet the cross–curriculum priorities and explorations into Aboriginal Histories and Cultures. These sessions are also the perfect addition to your learning design around Reconciliation or Naidoc week.
Dance is not just a great form of fitness and exercise, but it also helps children and young people to express themselves in their own unique way. Every session is a safe space led by positive role models who promote physical literacy. All our classes start with a warm up and end with a warm down. During this time especially, our instructors keep tabs on the class and communicate to build mental and physical awareness. They deliver powerful spoken and unspoken messages of body and emotional positivity for everyone.
Our instructors each have many years’ experience teaching dance and fitness to groups of children and young people. Between them, they have 100 years of leading group dance classes or individual sessions. We find that children and young people who aren’t into mainstream or team sports often excel in our dance, fitness and mindfulness sessions. We emphasise creativity and confidence through physical literacy. While there should be the expectation that everyone will participate, we want students to have a fabulous time, so our instructors know how to get the best out of young people. It helps if everyone present takes part – teachers also love our incursions! You could even consider inviting parents.
Our instructors will arrive at least 15 mins before the start of the event to sign in and set up. They will provide all equipment and speakers. Our programs are structured around your school timetable. Teachers must be present during the session.
